RevenueCat's latest subscription data gives us a useful clue. Business apps had a 9.1% median download-to-trial rate, the highest category in its dataset. Nearly 90% of those trials started on the same day the app was downloaded. Business apps also reached a 2.6% median download-to-paid conversion globally, placing the category close to Health & Fitness at the top of RevenueCat's rankings.
The reason goes beyond subscription statistics. Android phones are already packed with equipment that field workers need: cameras, GPS, Bluetooth, NFC, microphones, local storage, biometric authentication and barcode scanning through the camera. One device can replace several pieces of specialist hardware.

A bookkeeping app designed around Thai tax documents, an Indonesian merchant's marketplace workflow or Brazil's invoicing system has a reason to exist that survives translation into another language.
The local complexity becomes part of the product.
That can be much harder for a global SaaS company to reproduce than a prettier interface.

Yes, but Android subscription apps have a brutal first part of the funnel: getting an ordinary downloader to become a serious paying prospect.
RevenueCat's latest numbers show a striking split. Median Day-35 download-to-paid conversion was 0.9% on Google Play versus 2.6% on Apple's App Store, giving iOS almost a threefold advantage.
Once an Android user starts a trial, the story changes. Median trial-to-paid conversion was 32.5% on Google Play and 32.6% on iOS. The users who get far enough to try the paid product behave almost identically.
Revenue per payer eventually gets close too. RevenueCat measured first-year realized lifetime value at roughly $21.62 per Google Play payer versus $23.38 on iOS, an 8% gap. The much larger difference appears earlier: Day-60 revenue per install was about $0.23 on Google Play and $0.42 on iOS.
That tells us where Android subscription products usually struggle.
The user has to understand the benefit almost immediately. RevenueCat found that 55% of cancellations for three-day trials happen on Day 0, while roughly 80% to 90% of trial starts across many categories also occur on the first day. Developers get very little time to turn curiosity into intent.
Products with obvious repeated value fit this model better: serious fitness, education, specialist business tools, recurring professional information or software that becomes more useful as personal context builds.

The aim was to avoid treating one market-share number, one subscription benchmark or one platform announcement as decisive on its own.
For each dimension, we used the freshest useful evidence available and gave more weight to what users actually do: pay, start trials, retain, use products repeatedly, adopt platform features or work across specific Android surfaces. Large audiences were treated as evidence of relevance, not automatic evidence of opportunity.
The opportunity rankings use a separate test. We looked for recurring use, accumulated data, hardware or device integration, workflow depth, offline usefulness and switching friction. That is how we distinguish an app that merely runs on Android from a product whose value becomes stronger because it is on Android.
Because the article looks ahead to 2027, structural evidence carried more weight than launch hype. Installed-device bases, platform API direction, monetization patterns, persistent user behavior and distribution rules were treated as more useful than short-lived enthusiasm around a new feature or device.
We also separated AI demand from AI durability. RevenueCat's data on conversion, revenue per payer and churn was used alongside Sensor Tower's AI-usage concentration data, so strong early monetization did not automatically translate into a positive view of generic AI wrappers.

No single source determines the conclusion; the answer comes from aggregating recent evidence across these dimensions and then making the editorial judgment after checking whether the different pieces point in the same direction.
